You say Osborne didn’t have model citizens, but Switzer did? Look into how many academic all Americans Osborne coached. They had some juiced guys, but testing caught up before his teams really took off. The partial qualifier deal stopping really hurt their recruiting, but there are likely less qualified guys that got into any other college, even today.

Osborne's total body of work easily boosts him over Switzer.

This is obviously because Barry detonated himself out of sheer stupidity and Osborne got to coach an additional 7 years. Still, running yourself out of the NCAA should be factored in.

Everyone had juiced players in the '70s.
I had a neighbor who played at Maryland and then was a coach there. He used to sell roids to the players.
