From the Rant on 8-8-20

Anyone think we have any issues with full stadiums in 2021?

Well our state is currently ruled by fricking idiots so we may not have full stadiums. And I’ve all but given up on normal tailgating.

We can’t let people assess risks for themselves abs have fun. NOOOOOOOO!

I think we will, if they wanted to impose restrictions they’d have done it by now.

The Saints though may be impacted by local government.

I think we do. The Delta variant has taken over AR. I know a few hospitals that are out of beds. My bro was lucky to get one. That’s the problem, when you start losing space for ICU, you can guarantee there will start to be restrictions. I know it sucks but it is what it is at this point. I imagine they will go to half capacity with mask mandatory. Could be wrong but I’m already seeing corps make mask mandatory again.

I wouldn't be surprised if they operated at reduced capacity.

The delta variant tends to strike fast and die out once it runs out of hosts. I think we're witnessing the peak now and that it will improve by autumn.

The virus is running out of hosts and the viral load carried by those who have received the vaccine is very low. And a good portion of the unvaccinated may already be resistant by now. Soon enough they'll issue another vaccine and COVID will have even less of the already small fraction of the population to cling on to.

My youngest son's university re-issued a mask mandate despite all students and faculty being required to submit proof of vaccination before the semester begins. I think that's a very redundant and draconian measure. The vaccine has proven to be very effective- why tamper with a controlled population that's already immunized? Best to see if anything does break out without requiring the masks at all.

The difference is there’s not another 2 trillion dollar stimulus coming so I think most of the various state and local governments will do everything they can to keep their economies going. I know how much a home LSU game does for the Baton Rouge economy, I can only imagine what it does for smaller college towns

Stadiums and tailgating are outdoor events which help.

I would not be surprised to see an about face on the full stadium directive.

Maybe. As far as I know, MLB teams in California are still full capacity. Im not a numbers guy, but if a Vaccine is 90%+ effective and well over 50% of the population has it, then I dont see how an outbreak can get as bad as when we were in full lockdown

Correct, they have a lot more people vaccinated and their population overall is already healthier than in the south.

In the SEC, practically every city gets a massive boost (either from home fans or visiting fans). When you look at the size of the stadiums it becomes clear that even at half capacity some of them are going to be at 45k-50k (some SEC stadiums are among the largest in the world). Even those "half" numbers would be worth it to these cities, so I'm inclined to agree. They'll do everything in their power to get as many people into the stands as possible, and gradually increase that number.

Sure. But knowing all of that, if I told you that either the San Francisco Giants or the Texas Rangers were gonna limit capacity next month. Which one would you guess?

A harsh truth, but a truth nonetheless.

Is it before or after California’s Governor recall vote on September 14th?

Bob Bowlsby was under extreme pressure to cancel the season, especially from his colleagues from the B1G and Pac, bur Hartzell and Del Conte straightened him out quick. Their action probably saved football by forcing the B!G and Pac to join.

They may have more people vaccinated, but they also have more illegals unaccounted for and more homeless than any other state. So I disagree that their overall population is healthier. California has no idea who is even living in California.

The Big 10 tried to kill football season, and then Alabama killed Ohio State in the national title game.

It was poetic.

As to stadium capacity this fall, I could see there being restrictions if the Delta Variant stuff continues. I think there will be some state governments/governors, universities, and athletic departments that will pull the plug on full capacity stadiums before the season can start.

Was nice to have a *2020* season.

And it’s good to get back to a real football season this year.
