When you have a bunch of teams that are either unbeaten or with one loss splitting national championships, they are mythical without a true playoff to determine a champion. It is why the BCS and eventually the playoff had to come to existence because the old ways were dumb. Letting human voters determine a champion screwed over a lot of teams.

I agree Dc, and I’ve got nothing against Arkansas, BTW. Love everything about the atmosphere there. By today’s standards, Arkansas is the champion for 1964. Got unlucky in 1965 because of the change in how the champion was determined. And should have won the 1977 title. OU had a shot at the title as well and that 31-6 drubbing by Arkansas should have given them the title. Still don’t get how Notre Dame got it.
