Why did LSU suck for 60 years prior to 2003?

They were bad most years and then would have maybe one year every 10-15 years with a decent record. Why did LSU suck so much for so long and how did they avoid developing a “Vanderbilt type” stigma?

They didn’t? I mean excusing your troll, they won a national title in between 1943 and 2003, 6 SEC titles, and went to 16 major bowls. Bear Bryant winning 12 SEC titles didn’t help. Despite all that, LSU was 13th all-time in wins before Saban got to LSU.

Way too lazy or I’d figure up the average W/L ratio prior to 2003. Scrolling through that link though it looks a lot like a Vanderbilt type program. Why no stigma? How did LSU fool everyone into thinking they are a traditional power?

The last time Boomer beat LSU was the mid-twentieth century (1949 season). You either weren't born yet or still dragging on the teet.

Alas, in the modern era of college football LSU beat Boomer in the natty and then bent them over a table and went in raw during the playoff.

It appears, at least on the surface, that LSU is nothing more than Cajun Aggie. Is Baton Rouge College Station east? The stats are hard to argue.

Does the “modern era” only begin in 2003 in the bayou? For the rest of us it started much earlier. Why the extreme suckitude for so long? Just curious why LSU has such an abysmal history prior to Saban. Hell, Texas Tech could win with Saban.

The 60s and 70s can be explained by the Bryant program at Alabama. Hell, that caused several quality programs in the region to languish even if they didn’t play them every year. Sucked up all the recognition and signed all the best recruits.

80s, I believe they hired a promising head coach but he died in a plane crash or car wreck before he coached game.

90s was mostly on the feet of Dinardo never putting it together on the field despite improving recruiting.

Just outside looking in but that is how it read to me…

LSU won the SEC in 2001.

The answer to your question is that LSU got a new president and AD that were committed to winning and they went and got Nick Saban. Everything changed after that.

We had a shitty Alabama retread at QB. Guy couldn’t hit a 15 yard crossing route man. Honestly, we never should’ve been there in the first place.

Y'all had the number 2 offense in the country and the kid was a Heisman finalist. How much dumber do you want to look in this thread?

Hahah you think that was Hurts fault? Face it bud OU is soft. LSU took a QB that was 1000x worse than hurts to the Natty. OU is really, really soft.
