I’m constantly afraid of getting in a car accident. I’m a meticulous driver and always triple check every maneuver, and I still am always afraid someone is gonna bash right into me and ruin my day.

I was in a couple of bad car accidents when I was younger so it’s probably just ptsd.

You're just extra cautious I think. Getting hit by someone else is something not enough people operate with enough awareness about.

Driving is very dangerous.

You got that right. Everyone does it so we don’t think about how dangerous it is.

I have a Subaru with a bunch of driver assist features and automatic braking, stuff like that. But then I drive my wife’s car that has none of that and I feel super vulnerable and driving feels much more dangerous.

Pretty soon those features will have to be mandatory on all cars, especially the brake assist. It’s literally a life saver, it will be like seatbelts soon.

We got ran off the road once by a driver who basically pulled around a couple of cars that were turning left as we were coming the other direction, and to avoid hitting him head on, I went into the ditch. Turned out it was an illegal who didn't speak English.

Second time, had a drunk driver crest a hill at night, I barely avoided a head on with him, but he swiped down the side of my truck, exploded both my tires off the rims, sent me left across the road and head on into a tree. Airbags deployed, and I passed out. When I came to I saw the smoke in the air, and thought the truck was on fire. My door wouldn't open, pushed my wife out the passenger door and crawled out behind her.

This is why I'm in threads calling for stronger penalties on distracted/careless/impaired driving. Almost been killed twice by idiots.
