This is a telling picture of how history and experience makes you who you are. The OP from A&M is describing cliques, disputes, banding together to get their way. From the old SWC to the Big 12, this is how policy was enacted. Texas ruled the conference. OU and A&M were 1A and the rest of the schools followed along. It was cutthroat.
The SEC schools had differences but cooperated for the most part. Decisions were unanimous. One probably had a bit more influence, but there were five others right on their heels to check them.
Now the SEC has brought in five schools that operate differently. Until now, it hasn't mattered, but UT and OU is game changing in many ways. The OP has given us a glimpse that we may look back in 20 years and regret this 2 school expansion.

I feel like the next ten years will have a lot of “we told you so” in it. I hope not I like the SEC.
