NIL done right

NIL will ruin college sports. In order for it to work, all money earned should go into a pot and be split evenly amongst the athletes in all sports. With some getting $1 million and others little or none, it is going to create conflict within the teams and athletic departments.
I would wager 98% of the players buy into “equity” - which is all the rage now - so sharing the money is only fair. Except when it comes to their money I’ll bet they don’t believe in equity so much.
There will be even bigger spread between the haves and have-nots in schools, teams, and individuals. There is no way this is good for college athletics competitiveness.

Pro teams seem to be doing just fine with this. And NIL won't be as rigid as pro contracts, as an relative unknown before the season that starts off playing well will likely have an NIL contract by the 3rd game.

Corporate control of players will be the end of college athletics as we know it. Some mindless sheep will hang on and keep it viable as a TV product but the fans of sport and competition will leave pretty soon once it inevitably becomes a shite show. You already have cases being argued for revenue sharing and back pay to former players but the ignorant children who pretend to be fans don’t burden themselves with realities like this. Make no mistake this has nothing to do with fairness to players it’s a takeover of the sport by people who will ruin it without batting an eye.

I am far from a commie and I don’t believe in “equity,” but I am not a fan of NIL and it should have never happened. A full scholarship is enough. I do feel for those not on a full scholarship.

I agree 100 %, you think youngs O-line will not be ticked off that he's making millions and they get chump change . Even if they get a little bit of money it won't be what he's getting. There's going to be resentment in the locker room. Can't make for a close team if you have the have and the have not's. Let's be honest we all know that the star players have been getting paid for years. Now its just in the open and it will get out of hand. It will eventually destroy the one thing that we all agree (as much as we disagree about everything else) is the best sport going today.

People keep comparing this to professional ad situations when they’re nothing alike. A pro player has a huge salary to fall back on if they don’t agree with an ad partner and decide to sever ties with em. A lot of these college kids entire family will be at the mercy of the larger companies they sign with. And that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the fact that any big tech deal has huge tie ins with gambling establishments. People who believe that these things won’t be exploited to their fullest are just naive.

There is no way this is good for college athletics competitiveness.
You have s ton of juniors leaving early now and not getting drafted. If these kids are able to have some substantial income in college then why leave early?
So will better players hurt the sport?
There’s no putting this cat back in the bag so all of this bitching and moaning needs to stop.
Watch or don’t but no one cares about your opinion on what will happen, no one

Why not just let 18 year olds go to the NFL? It’s the same premise the NIL was founded on and the sponsors who wanted it already control that league so why not force the NFL to do it? They want total control of profitable college sports. This has zero to do with college athletes, they’re just pawns.

But isn't this model for the SEC schools with TV and bowl revenue?

NIL came when college football attendance has already declined and will continue to do so. They effectively priced out the working man and as such feels isolated.

I agree socialism is not letting the kids go pro after high school.

Yep they split all the earnings from the bowls to all members of the conference. If we go by that logic regarding the players then even the walk-ons should be compensated.

And TV revenue...which is obviously the big Tamale.

These players aren’t even marketable on their own. How many six figure deals do you think Carson Wentz or Josh Allen would’ve pulled at those tiny schools they went to? Going to a recognizable school is the only marketability these guys have before they’re established NFL players.
