Black Crowes

Tesla

Violent Femmes - and they actually accomplished the feat as early as 1983

actually...Tom Petty?

stop with the Mother Love Bone. Don't act like you knew who they were in the 80's - Mother Love Bone...disqualified

Talking Heads - a little bit, yes

who else?

Violent Femmes and Talking heads for sure.

The Pixies.

Black Crows are a boomer dad rock band that tried to keep us in the 80's imo. I love them though.

Feels like bands from the 60's and 70's probably had more influence.

I kinda feel like the 80's was it's own thing as far as bands go. But, hip hop like Run DMC, Public Enemy etc paved the way for 90s rap.

Nirvana did release their first album Bleach in '89. That whole Seattle scene set the stage for a whole new sub genre of rock music.

These bands "pushed" us into the 90's. Incubus "pulled" us.

I would agree if Axel wasn't the biggest vagina in the history of hard rock/metal.

For sure REM

I'd argue Metallica. I don't think grunge ever goes mainstream without Metallica first being so popular with kids.

So wrong.

If anything, Black Crowes were early-70s inspired. That was avante garde to do in the late 80s. By the late 80s, nothing was "less-cool" than 70s music.

Similarly, in the 1990s, 80s music (apart from some mentioned in this thread) was considered lame af.
