Mac's dad reminds me of that dad in movies that doesn't give his son enough attention because he's a workaholic stock broker, but then at the end of the movie he comes to terms with his neglect and finally shows his kid the loves he deserves.

I may be wrong, but I think he was a professional tennis player.
