I got my undergraduate degree from the State Univ.of NY at Oswego right on the shores of Lake Ontario. We had a very good hockey club (later a team) and played some very good small school teams, winning more than we lost. We were a good club because we recruited back woods Canadians from across the lake. I started attending games and was able to watch from about 10 feet away and was delighted with the physically of play. At that time PE was required and hockey was an option so I signed up for the semester. They forgot to tell me being a good skater was a requirement so I got killed. The other players happily took turns checking me into the boards, showing that southerner what hockey was all about. It was a great experience that is so much different than watching it on TV.
