Iowa State will have 19 starters from the Fiesta’s 34-17 victory against Oregon returning — 10 on offense and nine on defense. Only lost 3 game. One was by 3.

They Beat Oklahoma, and Texas both top 25. Won their bowl vs 25th ranked Oregon.

They are still grossly over ranked. 15th is about where they should be. What you didn't value enough were their 3 losses.

The FPI is junk. It's heavily influenced by humans.

Iowa State has signed a total of 4 4 Stars since 2017 and their highest recruiting ranking is 46th. There is no freaking way they are the #4 team in the country in a normal year. I think their coach is doing a great job and they punch above their weight class (and pulled out some nice W's) but they just don't have the talent. The only way you can get to that logic is to assume the Big 12 is as good as the SEC which is insane.

I LOVE Mike Leach. He killed A&M at Tech up until the last couple of years but there is probably no more entertaining coach in CFB now that Spurrier retired. He's brilliant and so much fun. That said the magic has worn off. Teams with talent know how to defend him. He will always be dangerous and do well but he will also crap the bed and will never be elite.
