My answer would be that they awarded championships differently back then, rightly or wrongly. Every school in America recognizes AP National Titles. Arkansas is more than welcome to recognize their FWAA Title.
Now, I assume you will be answering my question? Or is it past your bedtime?

It is all mythical titles because any school can claim any title. AP and coaches poll recognized Alabama as the champion but lost to Texas in the bowl. That really screwed things up and they decided to wait until after the bowls to name the champion. Arkansas won against Nebraska and ended the season as the only unbeaten team in the nation.
Arkansas was named the champion from seven selectors after the bowls. But it is no more or less a mythical champion as any other team that could claim it.
Before the the CFP, all titles were mythical because no human polls that are biased or even the computers could accurately name a champion. That ended when the CFP began.
Nothing will take away the national championships from both Arkansas and Alabama that year. If both schools claim that they won it that year then that is fine, no harm done.
