AJ Johnson Stays Home
quote:
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and his staff have landed another commitment for the 2022 recruiting class, and once again, it's a Louisiana domino that drops.
On Friday, the Tigers reeled in a verbal commitment from Newman wide receiver AJ Johnson, who is ranked as one of the Top 15 prospects in a deep Louisiana class this cycle.
Johnson shut things down and committed to LSU's staff over offers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Virginia, and several others
LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph and offensive analyst Carter Sheridan both played key roles in Johnson's recruitment.
"(Johnson) has that size with a big catch radius and is such a hard worker,” Newman head coach Nelson Stewart said. “You watch him just for a little bit and you quickly see why the college coaches jumped on him so fast.
“All the kids have really worked hard, but when you have kids like AJ and Arch leading the way it makes it easier for all to see hard work pays off."
In eight games as a junior this past season, Johnson became the top target for Newman quarterback and Top 100 prospect Arch Manning as he led the team with 33 catches for 481 yards and five touchdowns.

That's 2 commits from Arch's team now to LSU between him and Bordelon, certainly making a power play there for him ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Love seeing the Louisiana guys turn Bama down for the Good Guys.

Good get and great strategy by O. At this point, I fully expect Arch to either attend LSU or Bama. I have no knowledge of anything, obviously. It's just a feeling.
It is exciting seeing so many good offensive weapons commiting to SEC schools.
