Because they have college degrees - in McMillon's case a masters degree - and they're like 23-24 years old. They've played several years of college football. I'm sure they understand that their careers are likely over and getting onto an NFL roster will be an uphill battle, but they're probably just ready to get on to the next stage of life.

I get that and agree. Just wondering why they have to officially declare for the draft? Can’t they just say, hey finished two degrees, moving on with life, hope to get a tryout with an NFL team, thanks for the memories!
