What are the LSU thoughts on this one? I know the Saints had a nice DL, don't know anything else about Nielsen though.

I'm a little concerned about having two guys that have never called plays. He has definitely improved the DL play in New Orleans. I don’t think we really know what we have exactly just yet.

He’s a great hire. Behind Freeman he was my second choice.
By all accounts is ready for the leap. Has a nasty D line at NC state of all places. Young and relatable. We bring back the whole d line. And bring in some elite talent there.
Besides he just has to be better than dead last to improve.

Pros: He looks to be elite when it comes to coaching Dline and stopping the run. What he did with the dlines at NC State and the Saints is very impressive.
Cons: I'm nervous about his inexperience with managing an entire defense that includes the secondary. Especially coming off a season in which we were dead last (aka 127th out of 127 teams) in passing defense.
I don't know what to make of this. Could be a good hire, could be an absolute disaster just like last year. Neither would surprise me.

seems like the guy has a passion for development as well as a world-class eye for talent on-top of being able to connect with his players. I think they wanted him before freeman but had to wait on the playoffs.

Fairly happy with it, two first time coordinators is a risk but IMO much better than brining in a couple of retreads. Everything you hear about the guy from Saints and NC State fans is positive so
