I was also impressed by OSU’s defense. They are pretty salty.

I was torn. Their run defense was very effective, but they did it largely by not playing nickel.

That turned out to not work very well at all against the passing game.

I'd love to know the theory behind that move. I assume they wanted to shut down Najee and rely on QB pressure to limit the passing attack but that hasn't worked for anyone against Bama this year. It was almost like they didn't believe the film or didn't fully appreciate the talent level of Bama's WRs and Oline.

Right: You are correct that OSU’s run defense was pretty good, but I was also impressed with how well their DBs played on a number of short routes in the red zone.

I think it was obvious that OSU has one of the more athletic defenses that we’ve played this year. The sack-fumble was a result of speed and quickness. The stop on Najee in the second half when the tight end missed a block was a result of speed.

That's how they played all season. I guess it was a "dance with the one that brought you" deal. They keep everything in front of them and tackle well. They play with 4 LBs around 75% of the time. This was mentioned during the broadcast. Apparently they aren't that deep in the secondary.
