“Roll Tide” on deck to be cancelled?

“In Alabama, “Roll Tide!” is a phrase for all seasons. Love for the University of Alabama’s football powerhouse runs so deep in the southeastern state that the iconic college chant routinely doubles as shorthand for “hello”, “goodbye” and everything in between.
But it may also have forgotten Confederate origins. The history of the phrase, as well as the creation myth behind the Crimson Tide’s nickname, is murky at best.
It’s not inconceivable then that the Crimson Tide’s seemingly 94-year-old fight song and omnipresent “Roll Tide” will make the list in the near future.“
Freaking ridiculous

A son of the incoming President killed himself to get out of the family and people are more concerned about forgotten origins of common phrases

I heard Coach Nate Oats yelled “Roll Tide Roll” when he slapped John Petty upside his head.

Roll Tide triggers Karen, but she is fine with rap music?
What a surprise.

Even the history professor they cited said there's no connection.
It's pretty well-established the nickname came from the Auburn game in 1907. Every sports historian will say that. Newspaper accounts back it up.
While "War Eagle" and LSU's "Fightin' Tigers" have a direct connection to the Confederacy, there's zero links of Roll Tide to some random civil war ship.

quote:Rammer Jammer, sure. But Roll Tide? C'mon Man. You Bammers can't let that stand.

It was bad enough that Ole Miss scrapped "Dixie" and changed its nickname to the Teddy Bears, or whatever it is now.
Enough.
