So now Auburn fans are claiming the whole coaching search never happened

It shouldn't surprise anyone when dealing with Auburn that multiple factions were running around doing their own thing. The AD appears to have zeroed in on Harsin a few days before anyone else heard his name but probably not from the beginning of the search. Other members of the committee were the ones leaking news (Notably to Philip Marshall who many of them have known for years). I absolutely think some of the boosters were all in on Steele from the beginning. Other interviews DID happen but once Christobal (sp?) signed his extension none of them seemed to go much further than hearing about the coach's plan for staff. Conflicting staff plans certainly derailed Napier so I don't think they got as far as an actual job offer with him.
Out of a group that is probably close to a million strong you can most likely find someone that believes just about anything.

They got turned down a lot. This was not the top target but I think he will do pretty good at Auburn. He is not a national championship coach but Auburn is not a national championship school. He will will 8-9 games by his second year and then have some 10+ win seasons with an occasional iron bowl win which the Auburn natty and that will please the fans.
The biggest injustice Saban has done to other schools in the SEC is that he has led them to the false hope that they can be Alabama and that’s not the case. Saban is a great coach but Alabama is also a great school with respect to football tradition. Saban has made most every SEC team better but they will never be Alabama!

To be fair, nobody ever knows much about what's going on in Auburn. It's because our leadership base is so small.
There were many Auburn fans saying, over and over and over again the stuff about Steele wasn't true. As a fan of opposing conference schools people chose to ignore it because it was a story they wanted to believe.
It's true we reached out to a few coaches. Seems reasonable. As much as I love Auburn I realize someone like Mario isn't leaving Oregon for Auburn and someone like Brett seems to like where he is at, etc...however, what has become clear is nobody that covers Auburn actually knows what Auburn is doing.

You can claim whatever you want son. All the fake, possible , or real back stories don’t mean a damned thing from here.
