Nobody knows how the Harsin hire will turn out. Have to give them credit for making a change, and taking a chance. It will take him some time to get a few classes in, and Gus didn't leave him very much to work with
Don't expect much for the next couple of years, but down the road? Who knows?

If I'm AU, I'm not critical of the hire, but I'd be very critical of the decision to spend $21M to do it.

I agree with that, but it's their money. People gave us a lot of crap about spending $75M for Fisher but he's been worth it to the A&M fans and school

Don't know where this comes from. Gus recruited top 10 almost every season. AU has the SEC FOY RB on roster (Bigsby who was a 5 star). Nix still has potential if he can get a line and a coach. AU has a talented WR corps, assuming some don't declare for the draft.
AU's biggest deficit is on the lines (both), especially the O-line.
But you're acting as if we're Vandy over here with no SEC players on the roster.

No need to defend.
The other fan bases really don’t have a clue how to rank this hire. Most AU fans are good with it and intrigued to see how it pans out.
This hire came out of nowhere and no one knew it was happening.

Doesn't this sound familiar...

Maybe but hardly a clear upgrade. Think that is what most Auburn fans are aggravated about. After Gus they had higher expectations. Don’t blame them.
If Auburn struggles under Harsin in y1 and y2... yikes.

As a business person, the whole thing seems like a mess to me. I was one of the few who criticized the Malzahn extension a few years back. This is a problem that just compounded itself. Better to lose a good coach than hang onto a bad one.

I thought they would do better as well - glad they didn't hire Freeze. Nobody knows a clear upgrade - we will see what Harsin's staff looks like. I mean, hell, NOBODY thought Pittman would be a good hire at Arkansas

In all seriousness, what did freeze accomplish that gus didn’t? He beat Alabama twice, and was caught calling hookers for his players.
He is literally Gus with baggage.

I agree it's not clear, but the reality is that Gus-like results won't be the end of the world. It would mean an SEC title and a couple other realistic shots at SEC title/beyond.
It wasn't Gus overall that was the issue, it was the staleness of the program under Gus. Happens to most coaches/teams.
Most Auburn fans are enthusiastic about this too, BTW. I'd say it's 50% enthusiastic, 25% curious/WTF (but on board) and 25% disappointed.
It's probably the most unified we've been about a hire since Tubs, TBH.

Yeah but much like Miles at LSU what was he going to cost the athletic department over the course of his contract with apathetic ticket sales and donations. The contract extension in 2017 was the dumbest thing our AD had done but we as fans had zero say in it. Gus had plenty of time to improve with multiple OC changes. I’m excited for something new.

One of the few? I am a third generation Auburn Alum and I don’t know a single person on Earth that DIDN'T criticize the Malzahn extension. Not sure where you are getting your opinions.

Feel free to pull the thread up. I got downvoted to hell for saying it was a bad decision.

Freeze turned OM into a contender, and the drop-off when he left is apparent. Dude was a sleaze, but could coach. Kind of like Art Briles

There is a reason for such a drop-off other than just the coaching.

Does Harsin talk like them?

Harsin is Midwest/West. No accents out here. Is that what you meant?
