How easy is it to win sec and National championships at LSU?

Its all about luck. You have to be prepared to take advantage of that luck but in the end its its all about being lucky.

What had Saban done prior to 2008 that would give you any indication that he was going to become what he did at Alabama? He was 91-42-1 as a collegiate head coach prior to arriving at Alabama. 2003 was his only selling point and his teams had disappointed coming off championship seasons (8-5 in 2002 after winning the SEC in 2001 and 9-3 in 2004 after winning it all in 2003).
We were told he couldn't recruit at Alabama like he could at LSU; it was pointed out by many that he only had two seasons of 10 wins or more; and it was also pointed out that he had never stayed longer than five years at any one location before moving on. Literally no one saw what was coming, not even the most optimistic Alabama fan. As late as 2012 there were some LSU fans who still believed Les Miles was the superior coach.

Well it is a semi-troll thread but I will bite. LSU has a tremendous recruiting area.
Louisiana is an extremely fertile recruiting area for multiple sports and the Houston area (despite A&M fighting you for it) is right there. There is a reason LSU is tied with Arkansas for most Nattys across all sports despite the amazing run we had in Track and Field.
Granted... Florida is creeping up on both of us but still.
So. The talent is there. The problem, in football, seems to be QB development. Honestly, given how much talent LSU has access too y'all should have another 2 or 3 national titles to your credit but your QB play has mostly been thunderously average at best.

He gets somewhat of a pass in 2002. He had LSU ranked #6 or 7 on the BCS and leading the west when Matt Mauck broke his foot. Marcus Randall was not an SEC QB, and we lost 4 of our last 6 games once Mauck went down. Think about it this way. What if Star Jackson had to come in mid-season to finish the year at QB in 2009.

Boils down the the QB again. Freshman Jamarcus and Marcus Randall split time. Still were a hail mary in the Citrus Bowl away from 10-2 that year. He also lost to Auburn by 1 on a weird rule that only existed that one season when we blocked the game winning extra point attempt @ Auburn. It was still very clear Saban was building something great at LSU, which is evidenced by how easy it was for Les to come in and win 11 games in three straight seasons.
No, Saban was not then what he has become but he was still widely regarded as a top 3, at worst, coach in college football when he left for Miami

Agree with people thinking he wouldn't stay at Alabama for the long haul, but I don't recall people saying he wouldn't be able to recruit. I think what shocked people the most was how quickly he turned the program around. he was competitive in year 1 despite needing to rebuild the roster

Outside of Bear and Saban, only one baw has won a title at Alabama since the 40's.

It's kind of weird. For all the athletes the state produces, they really don't produce many blue chip QBs

I'm aware of the story. I remember that 2002 Alabama-LSU game in Tiger Stadium like it was yesterday.

I think this is historical revisionism at its finest as many Tiger fans kept touting Les's first three years at LSU as reason to believe he was the better coach. "34-6!" That's all I remember from LSU fans after the '07 season. It wasn't until things unraveled in 2008 and 2009 that you saw LSU fans begin changing their tune on Miles. As I stated earlier...there are many LSU fans who believed as late as 2011 or 2012 that Miles was a better coach (or at least an equal coach).

I said what I did to show how great a coach Saban clearly was at LSU. He left Miles with a juggernaut of a team he built that was basically impossible to screw up when Les got there. Saban wouldn't have lost more than 1 game in any of those seasons. I'm the furthest thing from a Miles apologist
