Sam the OL master needs to crash the defensive coaching room hard this week and get some teaching in.

I don't fault the effort of the defensive line and linebackers, but they were not reading basic keys and they were getting hooked off tackle ALL DAY. It never stopped. Mizzou bounced the ball off tackle at will and we never had an answer to it.

DL running up field and running themselves out of the play, Mizzou RB's just tucking in under them and thus Mizzou didn't even have to block some of our big guys, they just took themselves out of the play.

That is, the only "penetration" was running upfield too much. We never forced meaningful doubleteam's by Mizzou's OL, so Mizzou OL was able to tee off on our linebackers all day.

Young and dumb.

Sam will get them to get it fixed.

I hope, and believe you to be right harry..

I just can't get down on this team, when i expected much less prior to the season starting. To win 3 in the SEC with what we have had is not just a decent job, but a good one. Especially with covid, refs screwing us over, no spring practice, and all sec schedule.

The usual pattern with a major rebuild... and this is one... is you lose close games the first year (unless its a really bad rebuild in which case you get blown out). The second year you start winning more close games. By the third year you know what you have going forward.

I think folks have realized our early defensive success was mostly do to smoke, mirrors, and a handful of players. The blueprint on how to beat Arkansas on offense isn't complicated. Run the ball, go play action, and wait for the Hogs to inevitably run out of gas when that handful of good players either leave the game due to injury or get completely gassed from being on the field all the time.

I'm not knocking our staff or players here. We are basically held together with duct tape and prayers this season and COVID has done us absolutely zero favors with our already slim roster. I like what I've seen so far this year in terms of fight. We will have to see what next season brings.

The defense was better in the first half of the season because they were still fully healthy and weren't depleted by covid. But they still weren't any good. Players like Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan are playing injured and tired. We just can't rotate these players out as much.

Before the season began, they had depth problems worse than other areas of the team. When you have players opting out, injuries and covid sitting players out then it was a matter of time before our defense collapsed.

What's the rule with the clock during two-point attempts? I was watching the Sam Pittman show last night and noticed that the clock didn't change when we went for 2. Is that normal?

I'm not trying to find excuses for losing, but there were 43 seconds on the clock before the ball was snapped and 43 left after the play was over. There were 3 seconds left when Mizzou kicked the winning FG, so a few seconds might have made the difference here.

Is the clock supposed to move here?

clock is dead during any point (or two) after a TD

good general post, but two points:

1. we actually won five games, and everyone in America knows it

2. the OP centers around LB's not reading keys (partly because the DL was letting them get waylayed all day, so the LB's were trying to find ways to compensate), DL getting hook blocked...all day... (i.e., losing outside contain) and DL running upfield too much. Basic things you teach 8th graders. Two - maybe even one - series of actually playing fundamental defensive front football would have won us this Mizzou game.

so the question this week is, do we have defensive linemen who are talented enough to draw some double teams against mighty Alabama?

Absolutely yes we do

will they get it done, is the question
