How crazy is it that the Vols last SEC title is 1998?

Just got done enjoying a whiskey and coke and rewatching ‘98 Tennessee/Arkansas.
The Stoernover game could be one of the most devastating losses in Arkansas history. THE worst is 1969 Texas, but you could argue this is number 2. Had Arkansas won, who knows how they finish the season?
As for Tennessee...this is a classic situation where if you told a fan during that season that 1998 would be their last SEC title for at least 22 years, they would probably laugh. Hell, even as a 12 year old I would have thought that was bullshite.
The ‘01 season was their last real hurrah. The ‘07 East champs were not that great, despite giving Ryan Perrilloux and LSU a run in Atlanta.

Honestly I hate that they’ve been down. I enjoy when tenner is good. That ‘01 SEC championship is one of my earliest memories and I thought they’d stay that good for years. I hope proot can get them back to competing for the East soon.

I think a 1980 SEC title would still qualify Big 6 status.

As crazy as Mike Dubose winning a more recent SEC title in 1999. And being fired by Alabama 20 years ago.

Imagine losing to Mike Dubose twice in one year. Once at home and again for a championship.
God it’s no wonder Spurrier left Florida.
