I was told on another forum that Kirby teaches them not to turn their head but to "stay in phase" and play the man? Is that really true? And if so, how the hell is that effective? And, PI will be called most every time if you don't turn your head.

They are coached to turn their head. But not early (they can lose the receiver)

The question is how should they turn.
We are coached to turn inside the body of the receiver.

Some people prefer to turn away from the receiver.

Turning inside should allow more length to disrupt the ball.
Turning outside should allow more of a "play on the ball" if the throw isnt perfect.

It is hard to say if there is a right or wrong. We work harder to avoid the big play.

I can only assume they also teach them to read the receiver and get your hands on his hands as the ball appears to come in. The advantage is you typically stay closer to the receiver so you can disrupt the catch. Downside is you are more susceptible to PI and accurate passers.

Again, if you are playing pressure man and are not getting pressure on the QB, your chances of success are diminished. The root cause of both of our losses this year have been not getting defensive pressure. You can blame the QB and there is blame to be carried by the QB. but realistically, our offense is not going to light it up this year. Still, we had a 14 point lead and then Florida went on a rampage with mainly easy passes due to picking us in man and having the ability to wait for the picks to develop in a clean pocket with plenty of passing lanes. We adjusted to them in the 2nd half and they scored 6 points.
