I’ve been a Kirby defender but if he starts Stetson the rest of the year...

It will make no sense whatsoever. We’ve got a date with Clemson in the season opener in 2021 and there’s a very good chance Brock isn’t ready for that competition yet.
I don’t care if Stetson is the better option at the moment, we need to get our young QB ready, whether it’s Beck, Mathis, or Daniels. You already know DJ Ugalieleileilei will be.

Agreed. There is no difference between 8-2 with shitty bowl game and 5-5 with shitty bowl game.

I don’t really think replacing Stetson with Beck or Mathis would change the result much. We should still easily beat the last 4 teams on our schedule. It’s not like Stetson is far and away better.

Except recruiting ..the life blood of the program lol

I would get fired yesterday if I consistently underperformed expectations.

Well, Mathis almost certainly sucks worse than SBIV, so who is the option?
I am not saying any option is wrong necessarily, just that there are no good ones.

quote:Maybe you're right, and if either Mathis or Beck can win us some football games, then they should have a chance to do so, but Mathis now has some experience under his belt and hasn't exactly wow'd anyone, and Beck hasn't even seen the field and was behind Bennett and Mathis on the depth chart. I'm curious to see what he can do, but I'm guessing he wasn't 3rd string "by a nose".

There's a reason why CKS has said time and again that Bennett gives us the best chance to win games. It isn't because Bennett is a world-beater; it's because our bench is in bad shape.

Mathis still needs the start. Turning a busted play into 8-12 yards with his legs is such a game difference.
I think those passes will become more accurate.

Bennett has no ceiling. Since this season is already over (and has been since the debacle in Tuscaloosa), I'd rather see what we have with the two shitty QBs who have upside instead of the shitty QB with no upside.

This is Stetson’s 5th year playing college football. Mathis is basically a true freshman because he didn’t pick up a football last year. He has the better skill set and higher ceiling. Play him.

Those plays don't outweigh the backfoot chunk into the air when pressured, or the jittery legs when he gets slight pressure. He is no where near ready. No poise, no awareness, and no touch on his throws. But he can run...sometimes...not always to the first down marker though.
Start Beck
Start Beck

Jitters are expected. We yanked him way too soon in that first game. If he keeps it up in the next one, put beck in, but for god sakes don’t throw him in against Florida 20 points down with a worn down defense and expect him to be lights out.

I get that, but the worst we can do is start Mathis or Beck against the 4 worst teams in the SEC. And even if we somehow lose those games, does it really matter in the long run? Start Mathis against Mizzou. Run the ball a lot and if we go down put Stetson in. It’s time to prepare for 2021.

Remember when the Fromm/Fields debate was a thing a few years ago and Kirby said something to the effect of, "the only plan is there is no plan."?
He should say something similar now with, "the only good option is there is none." lololol

Name Uga QBs that have looked worse than D’wan
He’s the absolute basement of the list

I'm just not a believer in Mathis. I don't think he is any good at all. And I've always felt he was an odd fit at UGA. His feel-good story coming back from the health scare made us all root for him, but he doesn't show anything on the field that makes me think he is a high-caliber QB.
I could be wrong, and again, there are no good options, but I can still see playing Bennett and grinding out cheap wins this year, and then relying on Daniels or BVG next season.

Why? Defense gave up 6 in the second half. UF defense isn't even good and our O line gave him time. He missed open guys and has terrible mechanics.
I don't think anyone was expecting a lights out performance bit he showed zero improvement from his opening performance. Maybe he will get better in a full camp, but he is bad right now.
