If If's and But's were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Didn’t read it, but does have to do with Tech rebuilding and having the youngest team in NCAA and how beating FSU will lockdown more recruits?

It's garbage. It's the same old shtick of assuming all else being equal when talking bout QB productivity, as if Fields would have have the same number of TDs to INTs last year with our receivers or that Fromm wouldn't have had more success with the receivers at Ohio State.
It's true that we would be in excellent shape this year if Fields had stayed and waited his turn but it wasn't in the cards. We would be in excellent shape if Fromm had stayed for his senior season, too, but that too wasn't in the cards.
Hindsight bias is real and too many irrational people suffer from it.

It's not just a matter of plug and play. It's also a condemnation of our ability to coach/develop/scheme talent on the offensive side of the ball.
At the end of the day, we had a top 5 pick and we had absolutely no idea how to develop him. That's not a good look.

quote:I'll agree with that point generally. We haven't had the most stellar OC's under CKS' tenure here.

quote:I don't agree. Most #2's only get reps in mop-up duty unless the starter is injured. Fields got plenty of snaps during moments when the games were undecided. Perhaps they weren't as many or consecutive as you or others would like, but they were more than most #2's get.

Fields left because he was sitting behind a starter who helped lead us to a near national championship and then who didn't do poorly enough to relinquish his spot while Fields was a true freshman. Fields didn't want to risk not winning the starting spot again and wasting another year of eligibility so he left for greener pastures. I can't blame him for looking out for himself but that's not because anything abnormal happened with our coaching staff, unless you count the multiple reps during the games abnormal (I do).
It was bad timing, not mismanagement.

He would have been fine at UGA with more patience.
He would have been fine at UGA if it were 2002 rather than 2018.
