Hitting it with your hand when the ball has hit the ground is “batting” it in the context of the rule on impetus. It makes it a live ball and should have been ruled a TD here.
It apparently would not apply in a scenario where a player was fielding the kick in the air and it grazed his hand and went into the end zone.

Batting ARTICLE 3. Batting the ball is intentionally striking it or intentionally changing its direction with the hand(s) or arm(s). When in question, the ball is accidentally touched rather than batted. Batting the ball does not change its status.
