It would have been intentional grounding had Nix spiked the ball forward, due to the botched snap that the ball was on the ground first.

The SEC can't give the win to Arkansas if they wanted to, because the game wasn't over yet.
Even if they would have rightfully given the ball to Arkansas, Arkansas still would have had to take a snap on offense.
Which we just found out isn't always a guaranteed thing.

Couldn't do that because the whistle killed the play. This happens all the time where a whistle kills a potential fumble/recovery.

The only option that they had was to rule it a fumble with no clear or immediate recovery. Auburn's ball at the spot of the fumble and clock starts on their whistle. Auburn would have then had an attempt at a FG with time most likely completely running out in the game.
