Great offenses seem to shred great defenses the last few years. I don’t know what is going on but look at the points scored in the last few years of playoff games.

Any really good team has to have a great defense, but lately no one seems to be able to stop elite offenses. In today’s game I would take an elite offense over an elite defense.

It is the realities of college football with dime and 7 DB packages.

Look at the great college teams. Count how many DBs deserve an honorable mention for All conference.

Then have an offense that forces 5 DBs at a minimum. 7 DBs at a maximum. How hard is it to target those weak links in the passing game with great college receivers.

Then look at all conference linebackers that have to sit on the sidelines.

Bama killed UGA in 2017 against our nickel defender. Moved the ball at will. Won the game by looking off a 3 star safety.

LSU got UGA into a 7 DB set. We had a ton of talented true freshmen out there. We got exposed.

Now image an injury or two to the secondary and what that does for a dime package

It's cyclical. I mean, Auburn's offense was shredding defenses, too, until adjustments were made. Innovations come and go both on offense and defense. What works today might not work tomorrow.

I get what you are saying to a point, but that is exactly the philosophy Oklahoma has taken the past few years, and now you are seeing them trend back toward defense. I mean in order to be successful you should have a very good defense, too. I don't remember the last time a championship team had a really bad defense. LSU's defense struggled early in the year because of the speed their offense scored, but adjusted and improved steadily as the year went along.

Hey. It's just my opinion. I just think if teams go all out for offense they will find it difficult to win. It really takes both. the reason defenses have not seemed to be as dominant is because of the innovations the offenses have made. Defenses will change and begin stopping the offenses again soon, imo.
