I think poaching is a big reason the ACC and Big 12 are still playing. They know the SEC is going to go on with this as long as it's remotely possible. And they know, if the SEC plays, any conference that doesn't is going to be at a huge disadvantage for years. I don't think I'm over-stating that.
I thing the Big 10 figured that out - hence the crawfishing about now maybe starting up around Thanksgiving. Their commissioner thought he could lead the charge in conferences shutting down. He was - mistaken.
The PAC 12 has decided to destroy college football on the west coast. They won't recover. This will destroy them in revenue, recruiting, and fan enthusiasm.
I gotta' admit - I was always a geek about reading all the rumors and stuff that went on about conference expansion. I still believe the goal of the SEC is to expand regionally, try to limit to one school a state, and try to grab the land grant state schools. I don't think they'll try for Clemson. I think they want UNC. And I think they dream of adding Oklahoma.
For reasons mentioned above, I think the number is sixteen. They want two more schools.
