About the asterisk the talking heads refer to

It’s similar to the fact that you can only play the teams on your schedule. The SEC plays tough games at least every other week while other conferences have one or two big games a year. You judge a champion by the teams that play during the season and their record, not potential.
The only time an asterisk is appropriate is when there are split titles or a team finished undefeated but was banned from post season play.
The talking heads are just trying to diminish this season because the media needs something to talk about and the media is centered outside of the south (conferences playing).

I’ll never understand the “tainted championship” or “but there’d be an asterisk!” arguments to not at least playing a shortened season due to a strike or covid. Who gives a shite? Really!? I just want to see sports, especially in college football where most of the championships are dubious at best anyways and only a small handful of teams even have a mathematical chance at making the playoffs under the current format anyways. It’s all made up bullshitte, so let’s just let them play and if an asterisk is needed, find, who cares!? They’ll crown whomever they want to crown just like 2003 USC.

The difficulty of this season is going to be greater than any season maybe ever given all 10 games will be conference opponents and dealing with the pandemic at the same time. If anyone in the country is able to come out of this season undefeated (assuming all three P5 conferences play out the entirety of the season), I think it would be as impressive as any season in college football history. The media can clamor for asterisks all they want, but it will be a futile effort.

It’s because of all of Ohio state’s hype for this season. They are becoming FSU and Texas with all of the ‘this is their year’ rhetoric.

Quite frankly given the teams and the schedules , the winner of the SEC deserves the national championship hands down. Clemson, Texas, Ohio State won’t play anything as tough week in and week out. (OU doesn’t count because all they do is flame out every year anyway)
