LSU just got in the groove of recruiting big guys for the 3-4 defense. We were getting killed with small nickle guys Miles had. Now we move to the 4-3. We have big guys at the nose tackle position that will move to the DT spot but outside of the starting rotation the depth looks suspect.

ETA: future apology for not shite posting. I’m sure this will fall off the front page by lunch

That’s actually a little inaccurate.. we’ve been recruiting for a 4-3 the past two years. Ed O wants a dominate line up front.

The chess match between new offensive styles and defensive adjustments continues to be one of the most fascinating things about college football.

It's amazing how much the average fan doesn't understand about the intricacies of match-ups and schemes, but when you really delve into it, it's fascinating.

I wish there was more content devoted to Xs and Os, but it's probably hard to get a comparably big audience for it.

Have an upvote.

Always reminds me of Lou Holtz saying "3-4 or 4-3 doesn't matter. Adds up to eleven either way." Must be that new math.

According to a thread on Tiger Rant, this is the updated depth chart for the interior defensive line...

DT
1. Glenn Logan 97 SR
2. Jaquelin Roy 99 FR
3. Jarell Cherry 55 RS SO
4. Eric Taylor 96 FR

NT
1. Tyler Shelvin 72 JR
2. Siaki Ika 62 SO
3. Jacobian Gulliory 90 FR
4. Nelson Jenkins RS SO 47

To my knowledge only the 2 in bold are really true 3-4 NTs. The others are all just defensive tackles. Guillory and Roy are going to be dudes.

They're not wrong. We've got depth but most are young or guys that have done nothing so far. DT is actually pretty good with 3 vets and talented freshmen, nothing unusual. DE is where we know absolutely nothing if what we have.
