Conferences will remain in name but Power 5 football is splitting away from the Group of 5 and FCS. This is happening now. Power 5 football attendance and ratings have been hurting because of money games. We see with conference only schedules that the Power 5 is financing Group of 5 and FCS football. With the current state of affairs there's no difference between Group of 5 and FCS - you're either Power 5 or you are less than. China virus is providing a convenient excuse for a lot of things and I predict the big things that will come from this is for bigger TV contracts and fans will demand more games between Power 5 teams. And, I think player compensation is fast becoming a reality.

Most of the feedback I saw from the conferences switching to conference-only schedules was actually positive. I was a-ok with ditching our 4 non-con games for a regular season game vs. Florida. Admittedly less so when it was revealed to be Kentucky and Missouri instead.

But still, I don't think the reception to conference-only schedules was as negative as the power brokers may have anticipated at the time. Pair the feedback with the money potential, and it may be the wave of the post-COVID future.

Attendance is hurting because to expensive to attend the game. If the teams thought they could remedy this in the long run they would not be removing seats as they are.

Also every game can now be seen do to TV contracts and cable now. I enjoy going to games and try to go to at least once, maybe twice depending on the schedule, but the logistics of getting there, parking, traffic after game, overpriced concessions, and high ticket prices are not worth it when I can go to the majority of games locally with 75 to 100 other UA fans, enjoy great food at a reasonable price, great beer, and still make it home in my bed by midnight. That was not possible for the 30+ years I have been going to games and following football.
