I believe the actual verse is "for as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west," a metaphor meaning all-encompassing light that is swift and startling, like lightning flashing across the sky.

The Roman army entered into Judea on the east side and carried on their conquests westward, so this may have also been a play on words/allegory that was more understood by readers at the time.

All joking aside, i picked up a Bible 3 weeks ago, first time in 10 years. Grew up in Catholic church, never knew Jesus.

As I was reading one night, out of nowhere this image popped into my head, just for a split second, and at that instant I started crying like a child.

It was almost like I was in his presence for that second. All I wanted to do was praise him and thank him for like 3 days straight. It was so weird, but amazing and beyond being able to describe in any english words.
