100% knew about it for as long as I can remember.
I however thought it was a state holiday, not a national one. It’s to celebrate when slaves in Texas learned of their freedom.

It is a Texas holiday that been around a long time. I think it was officially recognized in 1980.
The media learned about it in the last couple weeks and has decided to push to make it a national holiday.
