When Price was fired, we were still in the depths of probation. The Board & President pretty much knew that it was going to be tough to lure an elite coach to UA. We had been a turnstile for head coaches at that point. Shula was basically hired to be a sacrificial lamb and just sustain things until we get a little further down the road. It’s why he was chosen over Croom.

This is what pisses me off when people imply that racism was why we didn't hire Croom at that time. The PTB knew we were going to fire whomever we hired with that selection. They were not going to put either themselves, or Croom for that matter, in that doomed to fail scenario. MSU may not have been much better a chance than Bama at the time, but he at least had a chance. They were actually doing Coach Croom a favor.
