There are already other vaccines being tested on humans. The thing is, it takes around 14 months of monitoring the patients to make sure the vaccine is safe. So no matter who develops it, it sounds like it will take a while until it is widely available to the public.

I thought the Japanese were already using existing drugs to good effect?
