Agreed. Maybe we'll learn something from this clearly overblown panic, because this is going to pass within weeks.

The only thing this stupid shite does is numb people to when the real crisis show up. You cry wolf one too many times and people stop reacting. You can see it with the hurricane warnings. The Weather Channel sensationalizes them all now to the point where every big storm is the "storm of the century" and people start thinking they can ride out a Cat 5 because the last Cat 5, errr 2 wasn't shite. So when the real bad arse Cat 5 comes, like Katrina and Michael, people stay, systems fail, and bad things happen like deaths because people become deadened to the warnings.

Why would you try to ride out any Hurricane with a 4 or 5 attached to it?

There has always been a segment of society that is going to ride out the worst weather situations, no matter how you warn them. They couldn't get everyone off of Mt. Saint Helen in 1980. People put their possessions ahead of their family's longterm health. And then many end up taxing emergency plans and risk innocent life needlessly. It smacks of a pretty much-warped value system. For the most part, when the big blows get close it's best to get out of town, period.

Out of necessity for something not related to this uh, er, this event, I had to go to Walmart. Total insanity. Thank God they had beer. Then after fighting my way out of there, I stopped by the local grocery store. The store looked like it had been looted. This country is fricked. Not from leadership. But from the people we have become. We could never handle a real crisis.
