I'm not sure that I've ever seen an overreaction like this in my lifetime.

I know it sucks but I don't think it's an overreaction. There's probably a lot of people carrying this who don't even know it because of lack of testing or their symptoms just aren't that serious. Yeah, it's not life-threatening for most, but probably better to be safe than sorry for the sake of those who are more vulnerable.

Plus this probably entirely a reaction to the NBA ruling and that idiot Rudy Gobert.

Yeah, it's not an overreaction. I can't say much, but I know someone working in government. It's not an overreaction. They are in way over their heads. In fact, in case you haven't figured it out, the estimates of those infected in the US are WAY off. We are going to see a spike like Italy soon.

A lot of immunocompromised people are at risk of dying, and that's not just old people. I have a friend that is 29, and got the shite end of the genetic lottery with a lung disease despite having never smoked in her life. If she gets this...well...it's not good.

It's not a death sentence to most of us, but we shouldn't act like it's not a big deal. Being sick gives us medical bills, loss of pay, mental and physical stress. We can give all of that to the people around us, or we can be smart and eradicate this thing. And hopefully learn from it.
