Not a fan of Wolken by any means but this take isn't that unreasonable.

BUT ITS A LEFT WING SCAM!!

Seriously though, someone tell me what happens when the first player is diagnosed with the coronavirus. What do you do then?

And if anyone brings up the fricking flu, you’re an idiot.

If a player gets it they will probably cancel the tournament.

If not, just reduce attendance and the amount of different sites so athletes don’t travel as much.

This would have been easy to solve if competent people ran the NCAA. Now they haven’t done anything, and it will be too late, so they will frick something up. I guarantee it.

The virus itself definitely isn't a scam but the media freak out over it is. This same media was ripping the president as racist for his travel ban on China in late January. You didn't hear a peep from them about this virus then because they were too busy with impeachment. Now they act like half the people that contract the virus are going to die quick painful horrible deaths. Some media members are even reveling in the fact that this is "Trump's Katrina".

What happens when the first player contracts the virus? The player will be quarantined, monitored and treated for symptoms such as headache, fever, coughing, sneezing, and possible difficulty breathing, etc for probably 2 or 3 weeks or perhaps as long as a month before almost certainly recovering (assuming the player has no serious underlying medical issues) the way over 95% of people with the virus already have.

The media, on the other hand, will proclaim that all human activity within a 50 mile radius of the player be shut down therefore sending people into an unnecessary panic therefore further contributing to serious short term damage to the economy which will most likely end up being the greatest legacy of this particular pandemic.

The initial jumps in numbers of reported cases will further send the media in a feeding frenzy further panicking the public doing further disproportionate damage to the economy and stock market.

Ironically, as testing for the virus becomes more widespread and the reported number of confirmed cases spikes in the coming weeks, the ratio of deaths to confirmed infected people drops dramatically the few responsible media outlets will begin to acknowledge that the virus while very serious is much much less deadly than initially thought.

In the meantime, the media will continue to ramp up the panic in order to inflict as much economic damage with the goal of causing as much political damage to the president as possible. The first player will have long since fully recovered from the virus but you will likely won't hear a peep of it in the media as long as the panicked reporting is having it's desired effect.
