And neither do you.
Saban was willing to give Cochran a massive raise to remain at Alabama in early-2016, but no longer. He sees what many Alabama fans have begun to notice - we aren't out-physicaling teams at the line of scrimmage anymore. This trend started in 2017 and has gotten progressively worse.
Cochran has been slipping. Combine the above with the fact that our players have been getting nicked up more and more with injury over the last three seasons and it has become readily apparent that Cochran just isn't the same coach he was 4-5 years ago.
That's probably why Saban laughed in his face when he came into Saban's office asking for a promotion.

He was the highest paid S&C coach in the country. Obviously Saban did not think highly of him.

This makes absolutely zero sense.
First of all, if Cochran's performance has really declined this much, Saban would have either (a) jumped at the chance to move Cochran out of the weight room and onto the field, where as ST coordinator, he couldn't possibly do worse than others we've had under Saban and would also have had Cochran on the road as a recruiter, an area where he would likely excel, or (b) just fired his arse.
