That happens with a lot of guys. Did having played awhile help any when job searching after graduation?

I think it absolutely helped with certain interviewers just from a curiosity perspective. I certainly played it up as teaching me discipline, but I only played 1 year so it wasn't that large a piece of my resume.

I kind of bundled it with other stuff I did (industry work, leadership stuff) as selling myself as somebody who'd had to prioritize things and learned how to juggle more than one thing at a time.

I'm not sure it worked but I got hired and have been at the same firm for 10+ years now so I guess it didn't hurt

That’s what I’m thinking. It shows dedication to team and cause and ability to have self-discipline. It shows a willingness to sacrifice partying for a goal. Kind of like working your way through college. It shows a certain drive, focus and forward lean.

Every successful professional job interview I have ever had involved me and the person or persons interviewing me starting a conversation about something on my resumé and an hour later realizing that we had just been shooting the shite and hadn't really done an actual interview.
