With all of the Burrow vs Lawrence posts...what about the RB comparison? The leading rushers for each team during the season were Edwards-Helaire and Etienne.

Edwards-Helaire - 5'8 - 209
199 carries for 1,304 yards (6.6 ypc) and 16 tds
50 receptions for 399 yards (8.0 ypr) and 1 td

Etienne - 5'10 - 210
192 carries for 1,536 yards (8.0 ypc) and 18 tds
32 receptions for 396 yards (12.4 ypr) and 4 tds

They are about the same size...Etienne has better numbers against weaker competition.

Edwards-Helaire coming off of injury, but he is supposed to be at full strength for the game...hamstrings can be nagging injuries with long recovery times...how much will LSU be able to rely on him vs going to Curry or Davis-Price? If his hamstring gets aggravated, how much can that impact the flow of the game?

Maybe because QBs are just a tad more important than RBs... just a tad

Etienne is criminally underused.

To average 8.0 yards per carry as a running back over an entire season is mind bottling

Noted...btw...both of Lawrence's td passes against OSU were to Etienne.

You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle?

Bama won a national championship game in 2009 with 54 yards passing.

Yes Qb's are important, titles can be won on the back of a tailback or two though

There's a 200 yard differential in Etienne's and Clyde's rushing yards against lesser competition, but 1900 yard differential between Burrow and Lawrence.

QB might matter just a little bit more

He played a few snaps in the Peach Bowl and looked fine. All reports say he has been a full go at practice and is 100% for the game Monday. IF he were to re-aggravate the injury I'm confident in our other guys. Most of us figured Davis-Price would be the one to pick up the slack with Clyde limited but it was actually Curry and he was a nice surprise.

Yea Derrick Henry and Ingram were definitely studs! I don't think Etienne is anywhere near their level though. Clemson's oline isn't on those bama teams' levels either. Bama has deviated from the ground and pound over the past five years though.

So happy to be watching Henry dominate in the NFL instead of CFB now

Based on rushing yards allowed per game it would be

Ohio State (9th)
Texas A&M (30)
Virginia (40)
NC State (50)
UNC (51)
FSU (54)
S Car (66)
Wake (74)

Clempson had problems with UNC apparently

As an LSU fan I wouldn’t trade Helaire for Etienne. Helaire is fantastic and is a complete back. Also Helaire’s spin move >>> anything Etienne has.

Etienne is averaging nearly 2 more ypc and 4 more yards per reception with more TDs. It’s not really an argument. Etienne is much better

He had 86 yards on 14 carries (6.1 yards per carry) for 2 tds against Alabama in the Title game last year. Alabama was the 11th ranked rush defense in 2018

While they weren't an elite defense...he had 14 carries for 109 yards and 1 td in last year's semifinal game against Notre Dame. Notre Dame was the 33rd ranked rush defense in 2018.

Here is how each team's opponents rush defenses were ranked this year:

LSU:
Georgia Southern - 41
Texas - 35
Vandy - 118
Utah State - 110
Florida - 12
Miss St - 65
Auburn - 24
Alabama - 39
Ole Miss - 46
Arkansas - 124
aTm - 28
Georgia - 2
Oklahoma - 36
Average = 52.3

Clemson:
Georgia Tech - 106
aTm - 28
Syracuse - 116
Charlotte - 98
North Carolina - 51
Florida St - 54
Louisville - 111
Boston Co - 92
NC State - 59
Wake For - 73
USCe - 67
Virginia - 45
OSU - 8
Average = 70.6

So Etienne has faced significantly weaker defenses than Edwards-Helaire this season.
