Pete Thamel

@PeteThamel

Sources: Mississippi State is exploring firing coach Joe Moorhead. No formal decision has been made. School officials have been discussing Moorhead's future since a spate of off-field issues, including the fight that led to QB Garrett Schraeder missing the Music City Bowl.

Am told next 24-48 hours will be key, as the situation needs to be resolved one way or the other. If Miss State makes a change, Louisiana’s Billy Napier could be a strong candidate. He received a 2-year contract extension through 2025 season today.

Means our AD has no nuts and won't make a decision, or he is floating rumors to get the pulse of the fanbase. Either way it is shite. Prolly some agents in there stirring shite up too. Coaches getting fired just means a new one gets hired and they get paid. It is called churning and illegal in some industries. Pumping and dumping.

With the off-field issues, would State have any grounds for terminating this turkey for cause?

They should pull the trigger. Morehead is running the program into the ground.

Napier has the potential to have the same sort of sustained success as Mullen before getting a premiere job.

Obviously Moorhead is stale and a bad fit for the job so I understand firing him. At the same time, they waited way too late. This could be disastrous for this recruiting class if they decide to fire him. Kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation

I think it's at about 75% right at this point.

But here is what MS ST has to look forward to. You will find several top recruits bolting because the are allowed to and will.

- You will lose 2 Rbs and Hill is turning pro. That leaves you with Whiterspoon and a broke down RB Kareem Walker.

- A WR... gone.

- A QB... gone.

- An OL... Gone.

It will set you back about 3 years when all you had to do is follow through with the plan of hiring an OC and increase the staff. Then let him go after next year if he showed no improvement.

Instead, you will be locked into a new staff while paying Moorhead and in a MASSIVE Roster hole.

Crazy thing is that Moorehead groomed Brady at Penn State. Prior to going to the Saints he was in Happy Valley.

At the end of the day, it’s always difficult to take a coordinator from the same side of the ball as an involved head coach. Franklin is an offensive guy. Never sure how much is him and recruiting and his input and how much is on the OC.

For every Kirby you’ll get a Sal Sunseri or Muschamp. For every Leach you’ll get a Sumlin or Holgo. Now granted I think Holgo is a proven commodity as a coordinator but he hasn’t shown capable of being a long term quality head football coach.

LMAO the only person who set this program back 3 years was Moorhead.

Nowhere near that 2nd in the West prediction.

And yes 2020 will be rough with or without Moorhead. So it'll be best to make the long term heal.

- Best True Freshman in the SEC...
- 2 highest rate OL you have... a 5 star and a 4 star
- About to close on another 4 star OG
- 4 star RB
- added 2 more 4 star WRs
- Rebuilt that DL that Mullen failed to recruit.

That's called building and that's all Moorhead.
