That’s terrible news. I’d like to know what hospital he was at because I would never want to be a patient there. This day and age 34 year olds should not be dying of pneumonia.

Thought i read that because of sickle cell disease/ trait he had it caused major complications with the pneumonia.

As a physician who takes care of patients with pneumonia, I can tell you that the sickest ones more often than not are the people who are young and healthy. Ask any physician and they would most likely agree.

diagnosis was multi-focal bilateral pneumonia, meaning multiple "spots" in both lungs. From what I've read, it started out as an infection that spread to his lungs. Very sad to hear. Way too young. Was engaged to be married next summer.

Not a doctor, but it can take several days to culture the bacteria to identify the particular strain of bacteria so that the right antibiotics can be used to treat it. Until cultured, doctors will use broad-based antibiotics that treat most common forms of pneumonia. My guess is it had spread too far once the bacteria was identified for the right antibiotics to be effective. Pneumonia is dangerous stuff.
