Chase Young has had a great year, but personally don’t think he should be invited to New York. Just wondering if Derrick Thomas was a finalist the season he had 27 sacks even though they weren’t officially recorded which is stupid? As an LSU fan who was a chiefs fan growing up I loved Thomas. Absolute legend and class act

That's all good and everything but, you can't really compare Thomas to modern players.

Thomas played his NFL career almost completely in the 90's, starting in 1989. His years in the NFL were from 20 to 30 years ago.

Players today are better, stronger, faster, smarter, and hit harder and play stronger than those old dinosaurs.

Derrick Thomas would be a joke in the NFL today. They didn't have good nutrition back then, didn't eat right. They didn't have modern day weight training regimens.

Chase Young is ten times the player Thomas was just because he was born in a more enlightened and advanced era. 300 pound OLinemen are as fast today as Thomas was back then; it's the evolution of the game.

I saw Thomas play. Your post is a joke. You showed your lack of knowledge.

He would have everything available to him that they do. Do you think he wouldn't take advantage of it? You must think he'd forget how to play football. They'd still have fits blocking the man and if you think differently,

Smarter? Where do you get that? Better? Talent and ability is talent and ability, then and now. There are no Offensive Linemen, then or now, as fast and quick as Thomas was.

Enlightened? WTF is that? Chase Young has never played a down in the NFL and never dominated a game in college like Derrick Thomas I've watched both of them so I have perspective you do not. He hopes he has anywhere near the career Thomas did in the NFL.

You are talking out of your arse about DT. he played in the modern NFL not the Rocky 3-packs-a-day Bleier days.

This is ridiculous for a couple of reasons. First, it is a generation ago not 60 years ago in a segregation era league. The biggest and best players were playing as they are today.

Thomas' talent and athleticism are among the best all time. Place him into today's "era" with better nutrition and weight training and you don't think he excels as well? He'd be running laps around Young. Moreover, place Young in Thomas' "era" and he is just as likely to be sitting on the bench as a tub of lard with all of benefits you mentioned removed.

Also, you can't hypothetically move the player for comparison and not also assume that all of those external and societal factors contributing to speed, power and talent wouldn't also transfer with the player.

Look at DT's combine numbers...his 40 time was good...but if you took his 10 yard split...it is in the top 4.1% of all NFL combine attendees, and the top 5% of all players his size...and this was straight out of college...he got bigger, stronger and faster once he was in the league.
