We need an entirely new offensive scheme

LSU was running our system under Les Miles and look at where they are now versus then. This vanilla offensive scheme can’t produce enough scoring to keep up with the way things have changed
Ryan Day on Ohio State’s offense:
We take the same offense and force the players into it then when we struggle we just keep forcing it.
Ryan Day on Ohio State’s offense:
quote:
“When I go to bed at night, that’s what goes through my mind: ‘What is this going to look like?’” Day said. “‘Cause to say it’s going to look like it did last year, that’s foolish. There’s so many different bodies in there. There’s a bunch of guys we’re replacing, and new personalities with new skill sets, so how do we maximize those guys?”

Someone on the rant opined that Kirby needs to become a CEO/GM verses a “coach.” While that opinion is a grossly simple, it is in large part accurate.
As a GM Kirby could step back and analyze what is going on around him. In the modern game holding is the norm, both O line and DB. Kirby put what is probably one of his better D’s on the field this year and got torched last night largely because holding is allowed and Burrow had the ability to continue plays because of his mobility. An above average D crushed the life out of GA’s O largely because the receivers were mauled at the LOS and Fromm couldn’t make the D respect the run. Average receivers become above average when LB’s and DB’s have to account for a mobile QB.
The modern age is QB centric. Either scheme for the next evolution of the game or acknowledge what the current rules allow and recruit/coach accordingly. Otherwise, Kirby will keep getting the results we all saw last night. I’m hopeful. Kirby is still young.

We need receivers that can catch and get open and players that can execute. I was all over Coley after the ND gamw. But if you really look at the games, the players just aren't executing. I think Coley will be one of the better OC's within another year or two.

If we take Team Coley into Tuscaloosa in 10 months, we are gonna get curb stomped.

Kirby will never take responsibility. He has the offense that he deserves.

The over and under on regular season losses next year should be at least as high as 3.

We need a better qb more than anything. The LSU offense wouldn’t be close to what it is with a guy like Fromm.

I agree that this is the key missing ingredient. The recent NC's including this year's no loss contenders, all have dynamic/athletic QB's who can pass and run proficiently. Fromm has been a good QB for us and I like his personality but he simply doesn't have the talent to win a NC.

This is what Coach O does....he leaves the defense to Aranda and the offense to Brady. He's very hands off the gameplanning and instead serves as a "face of the franchise", recruiting master, and hype man.
I don't mind Kirby having a hand in the defense, but he needs to hire an OC he can trust and let them do their thing.

I agree with this statement 100%.

You'll get Coley and Fromm again, and the offense will still be shite.

Player A:
219/379, 57.8%, 2,894 yards, 16 TD/5 INT, 133.2 rating
Player B:
207/307, 67.4%, 2,761 yards, 30 TD/6 INT, 171.3 rating
Player A is *gasp* Joe Burrow, last year at LSU. Player B is Fromm last year. To suggest an offensive system that puts the QB in position to succeed doesn't matter is silly. Fromm isn't a Heisman winner but we absolutley aren't doing him any favors with this bullshite system. Dump coley, put in a new offense with Fromm at the helm, and 2020 is looking ok.

Fromm is what he is. He's a game manager at best. Someone else said it best. You can win with Fromm, but he'll never be the reason why you win. Burrow has always had far better talent than Fromm. Stronger arm, far more athletic and mobile.

You can win with Fromm, but he'll never be the reason why you win.
And I'm pretty sure the attitude of most people here is that they don't care how we win so long as we win. Isn't what you said in alignment with this? Why, then, is there an impetus to replace the QB that we can win with when we have so many problems elsewhere?
We should also be looking for the best talent at every position but I think a lot of people have a misunderstanding of what our actual problems are and thus they don't understand the right way to fix those problems.

Scheme was the issue this year only insofar as we tried to run an offense that didn't match to our offensive players strengths. What were our strengths? Our pass catching tail backs and elite offensive line. Why did we not run more tail back screens? Why not run more 2 back sets that send both RBs out on passing routes? Why not put Swift in the slot more often and get Cook in the backfield if the slot isn't a natural fit?
A bigger issue than this was the lack of preparation and execution our offense showed each week (that actually got worse towards the end of the year). Fromm's mechanics regressed considerably, many times there were miscommunication on routes by the QB/WR, drops, and general lack of player development between the front and end of the year.

Does Kirby seem like a hands off kind of guy to you? Let him run the defense. It’s certainly working. Get someone to help with the offense.

And playet "A" had his entire highly recruited WR Corp return this year and player B lost his entire WR group and several back ups but he has regressed way too much even without his receivers.
He should be on the tightest leash possible next year and we should be prepared to make changes at the posistion
if he continues in his downward trajectory
and I have no reason to believe he won't.

Fromm, Bennett, incoming qb need to do the 10,000 catch challenge with the receivers this offseason. No more fishing. No more telling people you want to cum on snapchat. You have the rest of your life to fish. You have the rest of your life to be a creep on social media. Now is the time to pass footballs to 6'+ black dudes whenever you aren't in class, film room, weight room, or sanctioned practice. He needs at least 20 hours a week in voluntaries with the receivers from now until Fall Camp.
We don't need a new scheme.

We need all of that on top of a new scheme.
Our offense is very broken and very, very far from being a competent P5, much less SEC offense.
