Tua's talent is not in question...His durability is. If he returns to Bama and plays a full season without injury he and Trevor Lawrence are fighting for the overall top pick in the NFL. IF Tua goes to the NFL with questions about his durability he's not going to be a first round pick.

I mean that is really the issue: go this year and probably go late 1st and to a better team. Play another season at bama and get hurt, its probably over as far as his NFL chances.

Exactly. He will 100% get paid a significant amount of money THIS year even with the durability concerns and the unknown about how he'll recover from the hip. He goes back to Alabama next season, will he even be ready to play by the start of the season? What if he gets hurt again? I think the risk/reward is much more in his favor declaring this year from a purely financial standpoint. Add to that, what else really does he need to prove at the college level outside winning a Heisman trophy? Further, he does well in the NFL, he'll get a much much bigger payday than his rookie contract and none of this will matter.

I also don't think he's the #1 QB taken next year regardless with Trevor Lawrence almost assuredly coming out.

It was a horrible and unfortunate thing that happened to him in the State game, but I really hope for he and his family's sake that he doesn't risk it all for maybe moving up a little in the draft. He has so much more to lose than he does to gain, and with his history of injuries, why risk it? He will make life changing money declaring this year. He comes back and gets hurt again or even worse he doesn't progress like everyone hopes he does with rehab, he may not. As they say, a bird in hand is better than two in the bush.
