barring an uncharacteristic fumble.
I honestly think it was more of a chance to fumble the ball running up the middle (botched exchange, big time hit, stripped ball, etc.) than to have thrown an interception of a throw in the flats like that.
The ONLY reason it failed so badly was that the play was TOO GOOD. Najee had his defender easily beat. Him and Mac could have slow danced with each other into the endzone if Kaho had just done his one assignment.

Those were from the shotgun

But I maintain that’s part of the problem: Kaho runs out of the FB/H-back spot a handful of times a game at most. He’s not prepared for much beyond his one job of hitting the hole and clearing it out. I’d be willing to bet he had no idea he had to pick up that blitz, it’s not his real position.

The execution of the pass play from the 2 got blown up with the blitz.
I would have liked Najee to at least get 1 crack at it running off tackle on 1st down, then maybe try the pass on 2nd down but as we all know it wasn't meant for us to go up by 8 at that point in the game.
I've been watching Bama now since 80 so nearly 40 years & I can't recall us throwing 2 pick 6's, 13 penalties, still only lose by 3.
Crazy game, you think with those misfortunes we got our arse beat 3 or 4 TD's.

This. If you’re going to run that play, make sure the FB is a FB and doesn’t spend the rest of his time at another position. Couple that with the fact that we had the backup QB in. That is getting too cute at a time where could’ve put ourselves in a great position to win the game. We were staring a TD in the face and the OL was doing a good job run blocking. If it was third down and they had stuffed us, then I’m a little more ok with it. We did the same kind of thing against UT and it bit us then.

Nuss ran a dumbass flood rollout to the short side of the field on 4th down after running a similarly idiot slow developing rollout the other way earlier in the sequence.
Sark ran a play action pass to the flat that was there on 1st down. The ball has to be on the free side of the back, not the trailing defender side. And on top of that it literally took the ball sitting on Najee's back for it to be picked.
Got zero problem with the call. Had tons of problems with what Nuss did.
It was a pass that was out wide and left enough room for a 100 yard return for a TD with no chance for anyone to catch him.
On 1st down.
On the 2.

Like I said in my original post, I watched the game for the first time this evening, think it was ESPNU, but not sure? Anyway, it just was like a reminder of when Alabama was moving the ball on LSU in 2010 or 2011 (whenever that GOTC was played), then all of a sudden they dial up a halfback pass? Like then, I am asking why? You are moving the ball, think Saturday, wasn't it a 6 minute drive? But, moving the ball, why not just finish it off with something a little safer?
Look, I'm a LSU fan first of course, but Alabama has always been my second favorite SEC team. The play that was called just has me confused, you know?

You just can't put an inexperienced QB in that situation.
Najee can freaking jump over folks, we should have loaded up the backfield and let him try

If Jones uses the field and throws to the sideline it's a touchdown.
If someone didn’t miss their block, Jones would have plenty of time to hit Najee in the back corner of the end zone. Najee had almost 2 steps on the defender.

It was the turning point play of the game.
TD there we're up 8. Instead down 6 with a chaotic seesaw battle.

I didn’t like the play call at all.. run Najee and make them stop us.. I remember when Saban went off on Kiffin for getting cute in the red zone.. think it was his first good sideline arse chewing..lol

The two runs prior to that netted 0 yards. A one yard run from the 9 to the 8 and a one yard loss from the 3 back to the 4.
Again, if nothing else, this play was designed to loosen up and spread out the defense, so we could run, using the same formation and personnel, up the middle.
Seriously.
They literally stacked the box and killed our run, yet people are saying "why didn't we run there!".
Sark made a good call. Najee would have been open. Mac just made a horrible pass. You lob the ball to the corner and give Najee the chance to run under it.
You don't fricking throw flat route short or behind the shoulder. Those lead to picks.

I thought our OLine had their best game of the year & Najee at that point was abusing their worn down defense.
You run him off tackle from the 2, I like our chances. Don't forget his ability to leap over defenders if need be.
If it doesn't work on 1st down then take a chance with the pass play.
This is the same scenario, different type play, that lost Seattle a Superbowl against New England few years ago.
Ignored Beastmode, pass got picked, ball game.
That play call caused dissention between coaches & players in their organization.

That was a TD. The only reason why it turned into a pick six is because the DE was in Mac Jones’s face as soon as the ball was snapped, forcing him to throw it earlier than he wanted to. If he had had time, the ball is out in front of Harris instead of a little behind him and we take a 38-30 lead.

It was a good play call. Horrible execution.
