Did any of you go to (or are going to) one of the schools on the list?

Yes. Graduated from Mizzou. Also considered Washington University, Missouri State, Truman State, and UMKC.

Are there other schools you would add?

Washington University is the elite academic institution in the state so I'd recommend looking into it if possible.

To be honest, not sure which is best for biology.

My take on the schools I know at least something about:

Mizzou is easily the best social atmosphere. You'll get the true "college experience" going there. Overall, the academics are average for a large state school. Depending on the program, they have some above average to excellent academics. In my biased opinion, Mizzou offers the most rewarding overall 4 year experience. However, Mizzou will offer the least amount of scholarship $$$ out of all the options, regardless of your accolades.

Washington University is the elite academic school in the state/region and is usually top 40 nationally. Acceptance standards are high and you must also go to STL for an admissions interview as well. It's private so will be expensive, but I'm unfamiliar with potential scholarship assistance. A degree from this school carries weight.

Missouri State is Mizzou-lite. It's a large school (23k+) with D1 athletics, but is definitely a mid-major university that is a tier or two below Mizzou. I personally really liked their campus, and Springfield is a nice town/city. Academics are not bad, but they are probably below all others on this list. They will be more apt to giving scholarship $$$ than Mizzou though.

Truman State is a very good regional academic school. It's not on WashU's level by any means, but for Missouri and the immediately surrounding states, it has very good academics. That being said, the campus is small and pretty boring in my opinion. Kirksville is the same. This might be the worst "college experience" on the list. Imagine a library full of kids studying on a Saturday night, and that's Truman. But if all you want is good academics, this is a great choice.

UMKC is part of the MU system. It holds a good reputation in Kansas City, but I don't think the outside world thinks much of it. I would compare their academics to Mizzou, which makes sense as there is a lot of collaboration between the two schools depending on the field of study. Overall average for a state school, but they have certain programs that are very good. Pharmacy and 6 year med program are two of those. Campus is decent, and decidedly more urban than the rest.
