AP National Champions since 1998 and their coaches previous job.

Since 1998 we have 21 AP National Championships awarded.

They have gone to 12 Different Schools.

There have been no first time AP National Champions since the BCS era began.


Here was the previous job for each head coach:

Dabo Swinney: Wide Receivers Coach for Clemson.

Nick Saban (Alabama): Miami Dolphins Head Coach

Urban Meyer (Ohio State): ESPN Analyst

Jimbo Fisher: Offensive Coordinator for Florida State.

Gene Chizik: Head Coach at Iowa State.

Urban Meyer (Florida): Head Coach at Utah

Les Miles: Head Coach at Oklahoma State.

Mack Brown: Head Coach at North Carolina

Pete Carroll: Pro and College Consultant

Nick Saban (LSU): Head Coach at Michigan State.

Jim Tressel: Head Coach at Youngstown State.

Larry Coker: Offensive Coordinator at Miami

Bob Stoops: Defensive Coordinator at Florida

Bobby Bowden: Head Coach at West Virginia

Phillip Fulmer: Offensive Coordinator at Tennessee.

Yeah, I skipped over Urban Meyer being head coach at Utah after putting him down for the Ohio State thing.. Also Nick Saban at LSU. I will add it in to the original post.

I think the player likeness issues are going to level the playing field more than people realize. It will likely help distribute top tier talent among the power-5 teams. Why be guy #4 at Alabama when you can be guy #1 at another school and get better money for your likeness when advertising for the car dealership.

It will also mean that local kids probably stay more local if there's a major university.

One can only hope because watching the same 6 or so teams being the only ones with a chance is starting to get boring.
